What should your child wear on photo day?

Choosing what to wear makes a HUGE difference when taking quality photos.

There are certain times in your life when knowing what to wear creates an impact on how you are socially perceived.

Events such as graduation, weddings, work and childcare photos; are snapshots to look back on for years to come.

If followed correctly your children’s photos will be memorable, being able to appreciate the life you have created.

But there is a catch.

Knowing what to wear is important, but knowing how to capture one's personality through a photo takes skills. I will leave a list of the best quality photographers for your children below.

What NEVER to wear on photo day!

Although your child may be obsessing over the most recent Disney film, you DO NOT want to memorialise your child wearing a Frozen shirt, no matter how cute they are in it.

Disregard all branding and logos, as years from now you want to remember the memories and the good times, and not how much money you can spend on that t-shirt.

There are definite do’s and don’ts when it comes to their attire and although your child is adorable in that rainbow shirt, it won’t look as good as it does in her daycare photos, it's as simple as that.

So what are the guidelines to follow to produce the best images?

The first thing to keep in mind is that having bold colours that scream for attention, is one of the biggest mistakes that parents make when deciding what their children should wear.

An easy-to-follow idea is that you should stick exclusively to solid and muted colours, if you have the option, try to stick to more earthy/light tones.

Wear long skirts; there is always something beautiful about photographing a long flowy dress.

Wear round necks if possible as they bring attention up towards your eyes.

Girls

Avoid shirts with collars, this is unless it is a part of their uniform if they do have one.

Wear round-neck shirts; although wearing a V-neck can make your neck appear leaner, it does give off a casual vibe.

Their hair should look somewhat natural and relaxed.

Boys

Make them wear a basic or long sleeve tee with the colours white, black, grey and a dark grey like brown.

Make sure that their hair is groomed to their liking.

Tip: You can never go wrong with a simple shirt.
